ClearSight First in Oklahoma to Place the BVI Hydrophobic FineVision Trifocal IOL

At ClearSight, we are always looking for the best lens technology available anywhere in the world. The BVI FineVision HP Multifocal IOL has been that lens for European surgeons for over 15 years. Now it is finally here in the U.S., and ClearSight is the first practice in Oklahoma to offer it.

Why Haven’t I Heard of This Lens Before?

The FineVision HP is not a new lens. It is the world’s first trifocal IOL and has been implanted in millions of eyes internationally since it launched. Surgeons across Europe have trusted it as one of their go-to premium lenses for over a decade. American patients just have not been able to get it. Until now.

The FDA approved the FineVision HP in October 2025, and at ClearSight, we were among the first practices in the country selected to offer it. Since then, we have already placed more than 50 of these lenses.

What Is a Trifocal IOL and How Is It Different?

An IOL (intraocular lens) is the artificial lens that replaces your eye’s natural lens during cataract surgery or Custom Lens Replacement. Historically, most premium IOLs are bifocal, meaning they help you see at two distances: far away and up close.

A trifocal IOL adds a third: intermediate. That is the distance you use most during the day. Reading a text message, working at a computer, checking the menu across the table. A trifocal covers all three distances, so you are not left in the blur zone between where your near and distance vision hand off to each other.

Most patients with a trifocal IOL find they rarely, if ever, need glasses after surgery. That is the most exciting point. With a bifocal lens there is almost always a blurry zone. With a trifocal lens, the blurry zones are typically eliminated allowing for seamless vision from near to far – just like you were born with.

What Makes This Lens Different from Other Premium IOLs?

There are a few things about the design of the FineVision HP that set it apart.

Most IOLs use a two-point contact system to stay centered inside the capsular bag, which is the thin membrane that held your natural lens. The FineVision HP uses four points of contact instead. That extra stability keeps the lens better centered over time, and a well-centered lens is what maintains sharp, consistent vision for years after surgery.

The optic design also handles night vision differently. The FineVision HP uses a technique called apodization, which means the rings on the lens surface gradually taper toward the edge rather than being the same depth all the way across. That tapering reduces the light scatter responsible for halos and glare at night, something older multifocal designs struggled with.

The material is engineered to stay crystal clear for life. Some IOL materials develop tiny areas of internal cloudiness over time. The FineVision HP is specifically designed to resist that.

What Does Dr. Luke Think?

“The FineVision HP has been one of the most commonly used premium lenses in Europe for years, and until recently American patients simply did not have access to it. What draws me to this lens is the four-point haptic system for long-term stability, the apodized optic for better night vision, and the hydrophobic material designed to maintain optical clarity for life. At ClearSight, we have already placed more than 50 of these and the results have been outstanding. In fact, we’ve seen levels of near vision detail that have rarely been seen in previous technology. We even had one patient state he could see the individual legs on a small insec” -Dr. Luke Rebenitsch, MD, Medical Director, ClearSight LASIK and Lens

Take Our Self-Test to See Which Vision Correction Procedure Is Right For You

How Do I Know If This Lens Is Right for Me?

At ClearSight, we offer the FineVision HP as part of both premium cataract surgery and Custom Lens Replacement. In both cases, your eye’s natural lens is replaced with an advanced artificial one.

If you are already facing cataract surgery, choosing a premium trifocal IOL like the FineVision HP means getting something valuable out of a procedure you were going to have anyway: clear, glasses-free vision at every distance.

If you are in your 40s or 50s and you have noticed your reading vision starting to go, Custom Lens Replacement lets you get ahead of the problem. The aging natural lens is replaced before cataracts ever develop, presbyopia is corrected, and your vision is set for life. No cataracts in your future. No more readers on the nightstand.

The best fit for this lens is someone who genuinely wants to be free of glasses and contacts and understands there is a short adjustment period while the brain gets used to a trifocal optic. Most patients move through that quickly and never look back.
