What Did It Take to Become a LASIK Surgeon?
Ophthalmologists are LASIK and vision correction surgeons who have completed additional, specialized training. This includes:
- A four-year undergraduate program
- A four-year medical education program
- A year-long internship
- Three years of residency training, both medical and surgical, as a resident in eye care and Ophthalmology
- (Ideally) One year of LASIK and refractive surgery fellowship for true specialization
This rigorous, years-long training process ensures that a surgeon is fully prepared to handle anything thrown their way. Dr. Luke’s experience in this journey prepared him to operate ClearSight LASIK and Lens and welcome patients to a life of clearer vision and freedom from corrective lenses.
Education
Dr. Luke’s academic career allowed him to explore his mathematics, medicine, and language interests. In medical school, he took the opportunity to combine his interests by joining and coordinating groups focused on ‘Medical Spanish’ and ‘International Health and Tropical Medicine.’ Experience in these groups let him indulge his interest in new languages and learning in general and gave him unique knowledge and access to patients he may have had difficulty reaching.

More About Dr. Luke
Why Oklahoma City for Your Practice?
Kristin and I have loved living in OKC since we moved here more than eight years ago. There’s always something new to do, whether that’s a new restaurant or theater, getting out to Riversport Rapids for white water rapids, or joining the crowd in the Memorial Marathon. We have loved the community of the city and are thrilled to be a part of it.
What do you like to do for fun when you aren’t performing vision correction procedures?
I am a very active person. Most of my hobbies get me up and moving. I love skiing and hiking, anything that will get me out onto the mountains. I have also always had an interest in the study of language.
Did you consider any other medical specialties before deciding on refractive surgery?
I knew I was interested in medicine at a young age. When I first applied to medical school, I thought I wanted to work in one of the pediatric specialties. Later, I developed a love for the surgical specialty of orthopedics. Finally, about halfway through medical school, I was fortunate to see the life-changing benefits of cataract surgery and LASIK. At that point, I decided to dedicate my life to vision correction. After marrying my wife, it was the best decision I’ve made!
