Can you have LASIK with astigmatism?

This is a common question that many people have when they start to research LASIK. In fact, many people have been told in the past that they were not good candidates for LASIK because of their astigmatism. At the time that was true. However, for over 20 years, treating astigmatism with a laser has been possible. Of course, like with most technology, there have been advancements over time which allow for the great results we now have. With these advancements, most patients are now great candidates regardless of their astigmatism!

So what is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is just another type of refractive error (like nearsightedness or farsightedness). It typically means the cornea, the clear front window on the front of the eye, is irregularly shaped. This irregular shape focuses light on two places rather than one causing blurry vision. Some may say you can think of it as your cornea being shaped liked a football, meaning that one side is steeper than the other, instead of being shaped round like a basketball. During your consultation at ClearSight Center, the most recent and advanced corneal mapping devices will help your doctor determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK. We would love for you to call us for a consultation, so we can help you achieve your visual goals.

“I wish I’d done it sooner!”

The number one thing we hear from our patients is that they wish they’d had LASIK sooner.

So the question for you is… why wait any longer?
